Halo: Combat Evolved — browser guide
Mitchell Hynes’s Halo: Combat Evolved browser engine opens a real game canvas and requires an XISO made from your own Xbox copy. Its on-page Duke-controller diagram maps keyboard and mouse inputs to the original controller.

What this project offers
The current page offers a game canvas, focus and fullscreen controls, an online-multiplayer entry, and a Duke controller mapping. Gameplay remains gated by your own compatible Halo disc image.
Requirements
- An XISO made from your own Xbox Halo: Combat Evolved copy.
- A desktop browser with keyboard and mouse for the documented mapping.
How to start
- Open the original Halo page; it redirects to the game loader.
- Use Choose XISO and provide your own compatible disc image.
- Click Focus game or the canvas to capture the mouse, then use the source mapping.
Documented controls
| Action | Input |
|---|---|
| Move | W / A / S / D |
| Aim | Mouse |
| A / B | Space / F |
| X / Y | E or R / Tab or wheel |
| Triggers | G or right mouse / left mouse |
| Start / Back | Esc / F1 |
Project-specific loading notes
- The file chooser states that the website does not provide Halo game data.
- Escape is mapped to Start in the displayed controller diagram. Browser mouse-capture behavior and in-game input are separate.
Common questions
Why does it ask for an XISO?
The current source requires an image from your own Xbox copy and does not bundle the original Halo game data.
Is this the same as HCEMobile?
No. HCEMobile is a separate project with its own storage, touch controls and account features.
